BOARD PRESIDENT, I HAVE A FEW WORDS OF THAT OKAY. [00:20:03] >> THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE RECOGNITIONS AND THE SWEET WORDS. I WANT TO SHARE THAT EVER THIS FROM THE HEART. THERE WAS ME. THERE WITH ME. I BEGAN THE JENNY BY READING AN ARTICLE FONTANA HERALD IN JULY 2020. REMINDING THE COMMUNITY TWO SEATS WERE OPEN ON THE FONTANA SCHOOL BOARD. I HAD NO EXPERIENCE AT THAT TIME IN POLITICS. NONE AT ALL. I WASN'T BACKED BY A PACK, I DID NOT KNOW WHAT THE ACRONYM STOOD FOR. OR NEW ORDER FORM 470 WAS. I HAVE A DEEP LOVE FOR FONTANA AND A DEEPER COMMITMENT TO PUBLIC EDUCATION. IN DECEMBER 2020, I WAS ELECTED TO SERVE DURING ONE OF THE MOST CHALLENGING TIMES IN HISTORY. IN THE MIDDLE OF A GLOBAL PANDEMIC. THROUGH TOUGH TIMES, THE BOARD STOOD STRONG. WE NAVIGATED A PUBLIC HEALTH CRISIS TOGETHER THE FOCUS ON THE HEALTH AND WELDING -- WELL-BEING OF STUDENTS, FAMILIES AND STAFF. IN 2021, I WORKED ALONGSIDE A.B. MILLER STUDENTS IN WRITING AND BOARD PASSING THE EQUITY IN ARTS EDUCATION RESOLUTION. A LANDMARK DECISION ENSURING STUDENTS REGARDLESS OF BACKGROUND HAS ACCESS TO RICH AND DIVERSE ARTS EDUCATION. 2022, HAD THE HONOR OF SERVING AS WOULD RESIDENTS DURING A TIME OF GREAT TRANSITION. I WILL FOREVER BE GRATEFUL FOR THE LEADERSHIP OF JUAN LOPEZ DURING THAT PERIOD. WE MADE KEY DECISIONS TO STRENGTHEN THE DISTRICT WITH A FOCUS ON LEADERSHIP CHANGES THAT IMPACTED THE FUTURE OF THE SCHOOLS. IN 2023, WE BROUGHT TOGETHER A CLASSIFIED AND CERTIFICATED DATA FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TEAM. SOMETHING TO MY KNOWLEDGE HAD NEVER BEEN DONE AND FONTANA BEFORE. WAS A POWERFUL REMINDER WE ARE STRONGER TOGETHER AND I FELT FONTANA WAS UNIFIED. LOOKING AHEAD TO 2024, WE HAVE TAKEN BOLD STEPS TOWARD EQUITY AND STUDENT EMPOWERMENT. THE BOARD MEMBER WAS APPROVED WITH THE STUDENT BOARD MEMBER STIPEND AND ELECTED COURSE CREDIT PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENT LEADERSHIP. WE PASSED THE CONFERENCE OF EQUITY POLICY TO ENSURE EVERY STUDENT FEELS SEEN, SUPPORTED AND VALUED. THE CONFERENCE OF ARTS PLAN WILL BRING EVEN GREATER CLARITY AND RESOURCES TO SUPPORT ARTS EDUCATION AND THE REMAINING OF RANDALL PEPPER ELEMENTARY IS A TRIBUTE TO FONTANA START HISTORY THAT WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN BUT WILL SERVE AS A CATALYST FOR THE NEXT GENERATION TO PASS THROUGH THOSE HALLS. MORE RECENTLY, THE BOARD HAS TAKEN HISTORIC STEPS TO ENSURE STUDENTS ARE PREPARED FOR THE FUTURE BY LIMITING BOARD POLICY FOR YEAR-LONG ETHNIC STUDIES GRADUATION. IT WILL EXPAND STUDENTS UNDERSTANDING FONTANA HISTORY BUT ALSO HONOR EVERY STUDENT DIVERSE HISTORY. AS I REFLECT ON THE JOURNEY, I WANT TO TAKE A MOMENT TO THANK MY PARENTS, MY FAMILY, MY FRIEND AND AUDIENCE. FOR THEIR UNWAVERING SUPPORT AND WATCHING EVERY SINGLE BOARD MEETING. I AM DEEPLY GRATEFUL TO THE UNION PARTNERS, P.A., USW, POA TO ENDORSE ME AND DID NOT KNOW WHO I WAS EXCEPT THEY BELIEVED AND WHO I WAS AS A HUMAN BEING. I WILL BE GRATEFUL TO THE TEACHERS, STAFF, PARENTS AND STUDENTS. THE WORK HAS BEEN AND WILL ALWAYS BE ABOUT THEM. SERVING ON THE BOARD HAS BEEN ONE OF THE GREATEST PRIVILEGES OF MY LIFE. I'M LEAVING WITH A HEART FULL OF GRATITUDE AND A DEEP SENSE OF PRIDE IN WHAT WE ACCOMPLISH TOGETHER. FONTANA IS A SPECIAL PLACE AND I WILL BE FOREVER GRATEFUL FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE MY COMMUNITY. >> BOARD PRESIDENT? THANK YOU, DR. CASADA. MR. ARMENDARIZ. >> YEAH, WHAT SHE SAID. TRULY, I WANT TO BE ABLE TO NOT ONLY THANK ALL OF THE UNION PARTNERS FOR WORKING THROUGH THESE HARD TIMES THROUGH THE PANDEMIC. AND ALL OF THE DIFFERENT ISSUES WE HAD TO ADDRESS HEAD ON. CHANGING OUT A WHOLE SUPERINTENDENT. MOVING FORWARD WITH THE DIFFERENT DIRECTORS. PLACING NEW PRINCIPLES IN DIFFERENT POSITIONS. AND ADDRESSING ALL THE NEEDS AND CONCERNS OF OUR COMMUNITY. I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT I FEEL THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST UNIFIED WORDS I HAVE HAD THE PRIVILEGE TO SIT ON. AND AT TIMES WE DIDN'T SEE EYE TO EYE ALWAYS FOUND A WAY TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT FOR FONTANA STUDENTS. WITH THAT BEING SAID, IT WAS AN HONOR TO SERVE WITH ALL OF YOU. THANK YOU GUYS ALL FOR EVERYTHING YOU HAVE DONE. IN WORKING TOGETHER. WE MOVE FONTANA FORWARD AND I CAN HONESTLY SAY, THE SHIP WAS SAILING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION AS IS AWAY. AND MOVE ON TO DIFFERENT VENTURES. I AM PROUD [00:25:02] TO SAY I WAS PART OF THE SCHOOL AND , WHAT GOT US TO THE DIRECTION YOU'RE HEADED. FORWARD, I SEE GREAT WINGS FOR THE DISTRICT AS LONG AS LEADERSHIP CONTINUES TO FOCUS ON PUTTING STUDENTS FIRST. THANK YOU FOR SERVING WITH ME AND BEING PATIENT WITH ME. ALLOW ME TO LEARN THE ROLE. AND TO ALL OF THE CABINET, THANK YOU FOR DOING EVERYTHING WE DO, DAY IN AND DAY OUT. THE COUNTLESS HOURS YOU GUYS WORK TO MOVE THE DISTRICT FORWARD. AND LASTLY TO THE UNION PARTNERS FOR EVERYTHING YOU GUYS DO TO ENSURE THAT ALL STAKEHOLDERS ARE BEING TAKEN CARE OF AND PUTTING STUDENTS FORWARD. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING. I WILL MISS SITTING ON THE BOARD. >> THANK YOU, MR. ARMENDARIZ. MR. PEREZ WILL ALWAYS MISS YOU SAYING LASTLY ON THE DAIS. OH MAN. I LOVE SITTING IN THE SEAT SOMETIMES. ITEM 3.6. TEACHERS ARE WILLING TO DO THE CLUBS AFTER SCHOOL TO GIVE KIDS THE OPPORTUNITY. THAT'S ONE OF THE BIG THINGS THAT IS MISSING ESPECIALLY WITH COVID. THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY. ALSO AS WE MORE CLUBS LIKE THE [00:30:05] TIE-DYE AND THE MAKER SPACE. THE ROBOTICS, IT'S GIVING THEM AN OPPORTUNITY AND WHAT SCHOOL COULD BE. THAT ONLY WHEN WE GO TO HEISE . THERE'S A LOT MORE OPPORTUNITIES >> I WENT TO MEDICAL IT'S MY FIRST YEAR. AND THE STARTER WAS HARD. AFTER I GOT IN THE PROGRAMS, I GOT USED TO IT. I FELT LIKE I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE IN THE SCHOOL AND ALL. EVERYTHING ABOUT SOUTHRIDGE IS THAT THEY DO A LOT OF EVENTS AND THAT IS RELATED TO ALL OF US. WITH CULTURE AND STUFF SO WE DON'T FEEL LEFT OUT OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. PROGRAMS THAT ROBOTICS HELP ME BECOME A BETTER STUDENT. I MADE A NEW EIGHTH GRADE A FRIEND LAST WEEK. >> SOUTHRIDGE HAS A LOT OF THINGS AND ANYTHING YOU NEED, WE HAVE COUNSELORS ALWAYS TALK TO THEM AND HAVE STATEMENTS WHERE WE CAN WRITE DOWN SOMETHING THAT IS GOING ON. WE CAN ALWAYS GO TO THE TEACHER DURING FREE TIME. >> PBI S, BEING A PLATINUM SCHOOL MEANS THAT , WE HAVE PROVIDED SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS AT ALL TIERS. WE HAVE A FIVE-STAR STORE, TEACHERS ARE GIVING STUDENTS POINTS FOR BEING SAFE , RESPECTFUL AND RESPONSIBLE. WE ADDED THE I.V. LEARNER PROFILE TO THAT AS WELL. STUDENTS ARE GETTING POINTS FOR THAT. IN TIER TWO, WE HAVE SUPPORTS LIKE THE CHECK IN AND CHECK OUT FOR STUDENTS WHO NEED A LITTLE EXTRA ATTENTION TO GET THEM BACK ON TRACK. LET'S CONNECT THEM WITH A MENTOR OR TEAM. TO HELP CELEBRATE THE SMALL SUCCESSES. THE BEST IMPROVEMENTS WE MADE HERE AT SOUTHRIDGE IS FOCUSING MORE ON THE WHOLE CHILD. BECOMING A COMMUNITY SCHOOL IS SOMETHING THAT WE ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT AND BEING ABLE TO CONNECT WITH THE COMMUNITY TO PROVIDE THOSE SERVICES FOR EVERYTHING THE STUDENT MIGHT NEED. HELPING WITH THE COMMITTEE THAT THEY LIVE. >> GOOD EVENING, EVERYBODY. I'M THE PROUD ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL OF SOUTHRIDGE TECH MIDDLE SCHOOL. IT'S A UNIQUE TIME IN OUR COUNTRY IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGE EDUCATION IN THE COUNTRY. THE FUTURE PRESIDENT SHRUM , THE FUTURE PRESIDENT TRUMP , ONE OF HIS IDEAS IS THE ELIMINATION OF THE DEPARTMENT [00:55:03] OF EDUCATION. IF HE FOLLOWS UP ON IT, THAT REDUCES THE BLOOD TO GOVERNMENT BUT GIVE LOCAL COMMUNITIES MUCH MORE POWER OVER THE EDUCATION. STATES RESPONSE ABILITY IMAGINE TEACHERS WITH THE FREEDOM TO TEACH AND ADOPT THE STUDENT , COMMUNITIES COULD TAKE CHARGE OF THEIR SCHOOLS AND CRAFTING EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES REFLECT LOCAL VALUES AND PRIORITIES. A LITTLE HISTORY ON THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION. FORMED IN 1979 BY PRES. CARTER. TO CENTRALIZE AND IMPROVE EDUCATIONAL STANDARDS OF THE NATION. IT'S A POWER AWAY FROM PARENTS AND LOCAL COMMUNITIES AND PUT INTO THE HANDS OF FEDERAL BUREAUCRATS . DESPITE BILLIONS OF DOLLARS SPENT, AND THAT ONE OF EDUCATION'S LEGACY HAS BEEN ONE OF CORRUPTION, STAGNATION AND FAILURE AND TEST SCORES HAVE TANKED. STUDENTS ARE MORE DISENGAGED THAN EVER AS TEACHERS FIND THEMSELVES ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL REGULATIONS LEAVING NO ROOM FOR INNOVATION AND NO HOPE FOR IMPROVEMENT. EDUCATION IS BECOME LESS ABOUT NURTURING CURIOUS CAPABLE FINGERS AND MORE ABOUT COMPLIANCE, BLIND OBEDIENCE TO AUTHORITY AND ROTE MEMORIZATION. WE CAN'T UNDERESTIMATE THE DAMAGE OVER ALL OF THE TEACHERS UNIONS. WE KNOW WHAT THE PURPOSE IS, TO IMPROVE THE SALARIES AND BENEFITS TEACHERS MAKE AND TEACHER CERTAINLY HAVE A GREAT DEAL TO DO WITH THE CHILDREN'S EDUCATION. THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE , UNIONS FOR THE SHUTDOWNS DURING THE COVID DISASTER. EVEN AFTERWARDS THERE WAS PROOF OF NO DANGER FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS IN THE KEPT THE SCHOOLS CLOSE. RESEARCH FROM OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY AND BOSTON COLLEGE SHOWED THE MOST SELLABLE ASSET FOR SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATE IS ENDORSEMENT OF THE TEACHERS UNION. THAT BENEFITS FROM THE MYTH TEACHERS UNIONS CARE ABOUT CHILDREN'S EDUCATION. TEACHERS BEEN UP TO UNIONS. THE EMPHASIS IS ON THEIR OWN POWER AND THEIR OWN CONTROL. HE HAD SUPPORT AMONG NONPARTISAN GROUPS FOR UNION ENDORSED CANDIDATE JUMPING 10 TO 20%. SCHOOL BOARD OFFICIALS WILL FOLLOW THE UNION ORDERS IF THEY WANT TO HAVE ANY POLITICAL FUTURE AT ALL. THIS RESULTED IN DECADES OF DECLINE, POLICIES PUNISH GOOD TEACHERS EXTRA PARENTS OF THEIR SAYING HOW THE KIDS ARE EDUCATED. WE DON'T NEED MANDATES FROM WASHINGTON, WE CAN DO GOOD ON OUR OWN. THANK YOU. >> NEXT WE HAVE --. >> LANGUAGE ] . >> GOOD EVENING BOARD MEMBERS. [01:00:41] MY NAME IS LYDIA RIOS. I'M HERE TO TELL YOU I DON'T AGREE WITH TAKING SPECIAL EDUCATION JUDGMENT DUE PROCESS AND DENYING SERVICES. I ASKED IN FRONT OF THE PUBLIC, HERE TO STOP USING OUR TAXES THAT ARE MADE FOR THE SERVICES OF THE SPECIAL CHILDREN YOU ARE USING THEM TO TAKE CHILDREN TO DUE PROCESS JUST A WIN AND PAY LAWYERS AND THAT IS AN APPROACH. TAKING A CHILD TO DUE PROCESS IS DISCRIMINATORY AND IMMORAL. I WANT TO REMIND YOU OF JANUARY 2022, THE FONTANA DISTRICT TOOK MY CHILD TO DUE PROCESS SIMPLY TO DENY AN EVOLUTION. WHEN I ASKED IF YOU HAVE INITIATED DUE PROCESS AGAINST MICE DONE, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD TOLD ME HE DIDN'T KNOW THAT. IS A VIOLATION OF MY SONS. WHEN YOU DO ANY TYPE OF DUE PROCESS, INITIATION, I ASK YOU TO STOP TAKING THE CHILDREN TO DUE PROCESS US AGAINST ANY CHILD. DO NOT ALLOW IT. THEY MUST KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. IT'LL COST MUCH MORE MONEY TO PAY LAWYERS TO START THE PROCESS RATHER THE OFFERING SERVICES TO THE STUDENT WHO NEEDS IT. WHAT YOU DO TO A SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENT IS A MORAL AND A VIOLATION OF STUDENT RIGHTS. FROM THE MOMENT CT PROGRAM WAS CREATED BY LAW, SHOULD HAVE ACCEPTED CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES. THE PROGRAM DOES NOT AFFECT HAVING CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES. YOU HAVE NOT INCLUDED THEM AND YOU HAVE DISCRIMINATED AGAINST THEM. I'VE BEEN ASKING THE DISTRICTS .24 FOR THE CT PROGRAM FOR THE DISTRICT IS NOT GIVING ME AN ANSWER. I ASK YOU NOT TO DISCRIMINATE AGAINST THEM AND DOING THE SPECIAL EDUCATION AND ALL YOU FIND IT . AND 9321 THERE WERE SIGNIFICANT REVISIONS PROPOSED, AND IF YOU TOOK A LOOK OR HAD A CHANCE ANYTIME TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE REVISION THAT WAS PREPARED BY STAFF. BY THE WAY, STAFF DID A GREAT JOB TAKING MY COMMENTS AND TURNING IT INTO A REDLINE FOR YOUR REVIEW UPON FIRST READING. THERE ARE STILL A LOT OF CHANGES TO BE MADE DEPENDING ON THE BOARDS DIRECTION TO ME AND TO STAFF. THE BOTTOM LINE IS WE TRIED TO REVERT BACK TO THE BOARD'S EXISTING LANGUAGE TO THE GREATEST EXTENT POSSIBLE. A LOT OF THE CHANGES WERE MINOR LANGUAGE CHANGES THAT DIDN'T REALLY DO ANYTHING TO IMPROVE THE BYLOT ITSELF, SO I IDENTIFIED ALL OF THOSE CHANGES FOR STAFF AND THEY WENT BACK AND REDID THE REDLINE TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF CHANGES AND REALLY FOCUS ON THINGS THAT WERE EITHER NECESSARY DUE TO CHANGES IN THE LAW OR NUANCES IN THE LAW OR PERHAPS THAT WERE JUST VERY BENEFICIAL LANGUAGE IMPROVEMENTS, SO STAFF PRESENTED THAT TO YOU IN THE ATTACHMENT TO THE AGENDA. THERE ARE A FEW MORE REVISIONS THAT I WOULD RECOMMEND AND A COUPLE OF THINGS THAT STAFF AND I DIDN'T COMMUNICATE PERFECTLY ON YOUR I WASN'T ENTIRELY CLEAR WITH ALL OF MY COMMENTS THE FIRST TIME AROUND. WE WILL BRING THAT BACK FOR A SECOND READING IF THE BOARD APPROVES CONTINUING DOWN THAT PATH. IF YOU HAVE ANY SPECIFIC QUESTIONS I WOULD BE HAPPY TO ANSWER THEM. >> THANK YOU. ANY QUESTIONS FOR STAFF OR MARK ? I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME ON THESE. WHEN I LOOK AT THE REDLINES AND EVERYTHING THAT YOU HAVE PUT IN THESE AND THEY ARE VERY DILIGENT, SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME ON THIS. WITH THAT BEING SAID IS THERE A MOTION AND A SECOND ADOPT THE FIRST READING AS PROVIDED TO US? >> I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A MOTION TO TABLE THIS FIRST READING UNTIL THE NEXT MEETING WHEN THEY ARE HERE. THE BEST THING IS TO ALLOW THEM TO MAKE DECISIONS BASED ON THIS. I WOULD LIKE TO TABLE IT UNTIL THE NEXT MEETING. >> I WILL SECOND THAT. >> OKAY. A MOTION TO TABLE THIS UNTIL THE NEXT BOARD IT COMES INTO PLAY . ANY DISCUSSION ON THAT? WITH THAT MOTION AND SECOND IF THERE IS NO DISCUSSION I WILL CALL FOR A VOTE ON THAT. [5.4 Superintendent Office - Board Bylaw and Exhibit 9323.2: Actions By The Board - First Reading] [01:20:06] MARK WILL STILL CONTINUE TO WORK ON THIS AND MAKE THOSE IMPROVEMENTS FOR US. THANK YOU. ITEM 5.4. I'M GOING TO HAND THIS BACK OVER TO MARK FOR HIS COMMENTS. >> I WOULD JUST JUMP IN AND SAY IN THE INTEREST OF TIME THE COMMENTS ARE MORE OR LESS THE SAME. THERE WERE A COUPLE OF AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT AND CHANGES THAT WERE CALLED FOR BY CHANGES OR REINTERPRETATIONS OF THE LAW AND THEN A BUNCH OF CHANGES THAT PERHAPS WON'T BE NECESSARY . I WILL CUT OFF MY COMMENTS RIGHT THERE. >> OKAY. >> I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO MAKE THIS ITEM TABLED FOR THE NEXT BOARD MEETING SO THEY CAN MAKE THE DECISIONS. >> OKAY. IS THERE A SECOND ON THAT? >> SECOND. >> THANK YOU. ANY DISCUSSION ON TABLING THIS FOR THE NEXT MEETING? HEARING NO DISCUSSION. I WILL CALL FOR THE VOTE. PLEASE WITH YOUR COMMENT. >> REGARDING THE TEACHER EVALUATION PROCESS I WOULD WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT IT IS NOT SUBJECTIVE AND CONSISTENT ACROSS ALL SCHOOL SITES BECAUSE SOMETIMES I PREVIOUSLY WORKED WITH TEACHERS AND THEY ARE LIKE I DO NOT THINK IT IS DONE IN A SUBJECTIVE MANNER, SO I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT IS CONSISTENTLY ACROSS THE DISTRICT. >> THANK YOU. ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION ? HEARING NONE. I HAVE A MOTION AND A SECOND. CALLING FOR THE VOTE. THE [6. Comments] MOTION PASSES 5-0. WE ARE NO UNDER 6.1 BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS. I'M GOING TO START WITH MY RIGHT. >> I AM TRYING TO PULL UP MY EMAIL. >> WOULD YOU LIKE ME TO COME BACK TO YOU? >> YES. >> WE WILL COME BACK TO YOU. >> THANK YOU. FIRST I WANT TO THANK MY BROTHER AND BOYFRIEND FOR COMING OUT TONIGHT BECAUSE REALLY APPRECIATE IT. I WAS SURPRISED. WE RAN INTO THEM IN THE HALL AND I WAS LIKE WATCH. FOR MY LAST COMMENT -- SO I ALREADY SHARED THIS , BUT I WANT TO MAKE IT PUBLICLY AND IF THE BOARD HAS ANY THOUGHTS AS WELL. SOME ARE BEING RECOGNIZED FOR A GOLDEN BELL. THE FIRST IN MANY YEARS FOR FONTANA UNIFIED. LEARNING THAT ONLY TWO INDIVIDUALS WILL BE ACCEPTING THE AWARD. OTHERS WILL BE PRESENT FOR THE RECOGNITION. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AND HOPE THE BOARD SUPPORTS THAT THE INDIVIDUALS THAT HAVE BEEN AT THE FOREFRONT LITERALLY CREATING THE VISION OF THE SUMMER BRIDGE PROGRAM , AND I DO BELIEVE THAT AS BOARD MEMBERS WE SHOULD STEP ASIDE AND THEY SHOULD BE THE ONES THAT ARE IN THE DAY-TO-DAY TRENCHES THAT SHOULD ACCEPT THAT GOLDEN BELL, SO I HOPE THE BOARD SUPPORTS THAT. THEY KNOW WE SUPPORT THEM, BUT WE DID NOT CREATE THAT VISION, SO I JUST HOPE THAT WE LET THEM ACCEPT THE AWARD. THE OTHER PIECE I ADD. AS I AM LEAVING THE BOARD THERE WERE A COUPLE UNFINISHED BUSINESS THAT HOPEFULLY WEATHER THIS BOARD OR THE NEXT COLLEAGUES THAT ARE STEPPING INTO THESE SHOES WOULD EMBARK ON. I REALLY WOULD LOVE TO SEE SUNDAY A MARIACHI BAND AT OUR [01:25:04] SITES. WHETHER THAT IS WITH IMPORTANT. OTHERS HAVE IT, SO WHY NOT FANNED HANNAH? VAPE SENSORS. I ASKED AND THERE WAS GRANT FUNDING. GOT A LOT OF CIRCLE AROUND ANSWERS. VAPE SENSORS ARE VERY IMPORTANT, AND ESPECIALLY IN OUR HIGH SCHOOLS. THERE IS MONEY OUT THERE, SO THAT I WASN'T ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH. LASTLY , WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE THE MOST IMPORTANT AREA OF FOCUS THAT US AS A BOARD COLLECTIVELY HAVE AGREED ON, BUT A LITTLE TOO AND THEY WERE FORWARD HAS BEEN MOVED IS THE GOAL FOCUS AREA ONE FOR A POWERFUL ACADEMIC OUTCOME. IT IS WHERE WE HAD SAID WE WANTED TO REVISIT AND UPDATE THE SECONDARY HANDBOOK TO REFLECT PRACTICES THAT PROVIDE FEEDBACK THAT LEADS TO IMPROVED ACADEMIC OUTCOMES FOR SECONDARY STUDENTS. I ASKED ABOUT THAT SEVERAL MONTHS OR ALMOST A YEAR AGO AND GOT A REALLY SAD RESPONSE . WE ARE TOO BUSY, SO I HOPE COLLECTIVELY AS ABOARD THIS IS SOMETHING QUICK COMMIT TO. ESPECIALLY WITH THE WORK AROUND EQUITY AND OUR ADMINISTRATIVE REGULATIONS STATE THAT AS ABOARD THE SUPERINTENDENT OR DESIGNEE SHOULD INFORM TEACHERS OF THE DISTRICT POLICY REGARDING GRADING INCLUDING EXPECTATIONS THEY SHOULD BE BASED ON FACTORS THAT DIRECTLY MEASURE STUDENTS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS AND NOT INCLUDE NOT ONLY ENDEMIC FACTORS. REST AND SIGNATURE GRADING POLICY WAS ABOVE-STATED WAS MAY 20, 2012. THAT IS REALLY PATHETIC . ALL THE NAMES ON THE FRONT PAGE ARE NO LONGER HERE, SO WE NEED TO DO BETTER. I REALLY HOPE THE INCOMING BOARD MEMBERS PURSUES THIS ALONG WITH OUR UNION PARTNERS AS TRANSCRIPTS HOLD GREAT WEIGHT IN DETERMINING LIFE CHOICES AFTER HIGH SCHOOL. IT IS TIME TO REVISIT HOW THIS IS A WAY TO THE. WHETHER OR NOT ACADEMIC FACTORS ARE BEING INCLUDED SUCH AS STUDENT BEHAVIOR. IF THAT IS INTERTWINED WITH THE GRADES AND IMPACTING THE SOLE MEASUREMENT OF HIS TUTORS CONTENT OF STANDARDS, SO ALSO TO END I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT ALL EDUCATORS READ THE FELDMAN GRADING FOR EQUITY BOOK. IT IS REALLY WONDERFUL READING, AND REALLY HELPED ME EXPLORE A LOT OF HIDDEN BIASES THAT WE THINK WERE HELPING AND MAY BE HINDERING OUR STUDENTS LEARNING AND OPPORTUNITIES, SO I REALLY HOPE THE BOARD EMBARKS ON THAT MISSION BECAUSE IT IS A PART OF OUR AREAS OF FOCUS AS ABOARD, AND WE HAVE YET TO GET MOVEMENT ON THAT, BUT THANK YOU. IT HAS BEEN A FABULOUS FOUR YEARS AND I AM EXCITED TO WATCH A BOARD MEETING HERE AND THERE AND SEE THE MOVEMENT OF HOW IT HAS BEEN WORK FORWARD. WE WILL CHAT AT THE END OF THIS, SO THANK YOU SO MUCH, EVERYONE. IT HAS BEEN FUN. >> THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE AGAIN. >> FIRST, I WANT TO SAY IT IS A GREAT IDEA. WE AS BOARD MEMBERS SEEM TO GET RECOGNIZE CONSISTENTLY FOR THINGS THAT MAYBE WE DO NOT REALLY DO. JUST THE REALITY OF IT. TO BE ABLE TO ALLOW THE INDIVIDUALS AT THE FOREFRONT AND THE DRIVERS. I THINK IF I AM CORRECT THAT SHE SUBMITTED IT, SO IT WOULD ONLY BE RIGHT TO SEE HIM UP THERE. I KNOW AT TIMES WE ARE THE FACE OF THE DISTRICT , BUT THAT IS A HUGE WIN. I WOULD ASK MAYBE WE DO GIVE STAFF RECOMMENDATION TO MOVE FORWARD. IF HE WOULD TALK IT OVER AND IF YOU AGREE MAYBE WE DO MOVE FORWARD WITH THAT BECAUSE I THINK IT IS A GREAT IDEA. IT WOULD BE AWESOME TO SEE THOSE PEOPLE ACCEPTED SINCE THEY SPEARHEADED IT FROM THE BEGINNING. IF WE DO GET A CONSENSUS THAT IS JUST WHERE MY HEART IS AT. LETTING THOSE PEOPLE ENJOY THAT MOMENT. FIRST, I AM EXCITED. I ASKED THEM TO COME. I HAVE BEEN A GREAT SUPPORTER OF THE PROGRAM AND THINK IT HAS DONE WONDERFUL THINGS FOR OUR STUDENTS AND THE NEW LEADERSHIP THAT WE HAVE HAD HAS FOCUSED ON SCHOLARSHIPS AND [01:30:02] GREAT IMPROVEMENT. CREATING ACCOUNTABILITY WITH OUR STUDENTS. TO ME THAT SHOWS BECAUSE CONSISTENTLY OUR STUDENTS HAVE GOTTEN I THINK LAST YEAR OVER HALF $1 MILLION IN SCHOLARSHIP MONEY. THAT IS AMAZING. WITH ALL OF THEIR HARD WORK AND DEDICATION THEY HAVE RECEIVED THE -- AWARDED THEM IN THE WINNER OF THE 2023-24 ASSOCIATED DESIGNATION. MAKING THIS THE LARGEST REGIONAL WINNER FROM IOWA TO JAPAN . THE KEY INDICATORS FOR THE SUCCESS INCLUDED ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN COMMUNITY SERVICE, THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF THEIR CADETS, AND INVOLVEMENT IN VARIOUS SCHOOL ACTIVITIES. THERE IS A, SCHMIDT POSITIONS SCHOOL PROGRAM AMONG THE TOP FOUR IN THE COUNTRY. THEIR PROGRAM HAS EARNED THIS DISTINCTION FOUR TIMES. THIS A CUMBERSOME IS A COLLECTIVE EFFORT AND WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE WITHOUT THE SUPPORT OF THE COMPLETE FAMILY, AND I WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THEM FOR THAT. BECAUSE THEIR PROGRAM IS BE ORGANIZED ITS REGIONS . AND ALL OF THE OTHER CRITERIA HAVE CHANGED. THEY ARE CONFIDENT THE CADETS WILL ADAPT AND EXCEL. SO I DID WANT TO RECOGNIZE THEM FOR THAT IN THE OTHER UPDATE WAS RECENTLY THE DRILL TEAM IS COMPLETED AND SANTIAGO HIGH SCHOOL AND OVERALL TEAMS GOT THIRD-PLACE. EVENTS FOR THE ROPE BRIDGE GOT FIRST PLACE . FIRST PLACE BRIDGE MIXED TEAM. TWO LOGISTIC RELAYS TEAM IS. THIRD-PLACE LOGISTIC RELAY FEMALE TEAM. HAD AN UPSET IN BOSTON , BUT THEY SHOT THEIR HIGHEST SCORE EVER FOR THE SEASON. I COULD GO ON WITH THE ACCOLADES, BUT IT'S ALWAYS HAS -- AS YOU KNOW I WAS VERY ACTIVE WHEN MASTER SERGEANT WAS THERE AND I WAS CONSTANTLY OUT COACHING THE SHOOTING TEAM. TO SEE WHERE THE STUDENTS HAVE GONE AND THE AMOUNT OF SCHOLARSHIPS OFFERED TO WEAR FULL RIDE SCHOLARSHIPS ARE HUGE . I HOPE THAT MOVING FORWARD THIS BOARD AS WELL AS THE DISTRICT OFFICE SUPPORTS THE ENDEAVORS OF THIS PROGRAM BECAUSE IT IS MAKING LIFE-CHANGING OR CREATING LIFE-CHANGING OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR STUDENTS. THIS IS ONE OF THE PROGRAMS THAT IS REALLY ANY STUDENT CAN DO IT, AND THIS LEADERSHIP TEAM WILL DO EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS AND HELP THEM GET TO THE NEXT LEVEL, SO I TRULY IMPLORE YOU TO BE SUPPORTIVE TO THE TEAM. HELP THEM WHEREVER YOU CAN BECAUSE THOSE INDIVIDUALS THAT LEAD THAT ARE MODEL MARINES THAT STILL BELIEVE TO THIS DAY WE CAN HELP . THEIR MISSION IS MAKING SURE OUR STUDENTS GET EVERYTHING AND ARE AFFORDED EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO BE SUCCESSFUL AND WAKE UP AT 4 CLOCK IN THE MORNING AND ARE THERE UNTIL 8:00 AT NIGHT. I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THOSE INDIVIDUALS. MOVING FORWARD [01:35:03] PLEASE CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THEM BECAUSE I WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THEM. LASTLY, I ALSO WANT TO THINK OF THE HIGH SCHOOL FOR THE ARTWORK. I WAS BLOWN AWAY. ONE OF THE SWEETEST -- I ALMOST TEARED UP , BUT IT WAS A GREAT FEELING TO SEE THAT MY ALMA MATER . IT WILL HANG IN MY HOUSE, SO I THANK THEM WHOLEHEARTEDLY FOR GIVING ME THAT. LASTLY I WANT TO THANK OUR CABINET. YOU GUYS WHO MADE THIS A VERY EASY 90% OF THE TIME EASY JOB FOR US BOARD MEMBERS WITH ALL OF THE HARD WORK AND DEDICATION THAT YOU HAVE PROVIDED . THE WISDOM AND OPPORTUNITIES TO BE ABLE TO SEE THINGS FROM A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE AND ALLOW US TO BE YOUR PARTNERS CREATING A PHENOMENAL EDUCATIONAL DIRECTION FOR OUR STUDENTS. I LEAVE TODAY KNOWING THAT OUR STUDENTS ARE IN GREAT HANDS WITH WHO WE HAVE IN PLACE , AND I AM EXCITED TO SEE THE DIRECTION THAT OUR DISTRICT MOVES BECAUSE OF ALL OF ZERO LEADERSHIP, SO THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO BECAUSE WITHOUT YOU GUYS THE REALITY OF IT IS MICKEY WOULD JUST BE MICKEY. YOU SUPPORT HER IN EVERY WAY AND SHE HAS FOCUSED ON SURROUNDING HERSELF WITH GREAT INDIVIDUALS THAT HELP HER MAKE THOSE HARD DECISIONS ON A REGULAR BASIS, AND WITHOUT YOU GUYS WE WOULD NOT BE IN THE DIRECTION WE ARE, SO THE SUPERINTENDENT IS ONLY AS STRONG AS THE PEOPLE THAT GUIDED HER. CONTINUE TO FOCUS ON GUIDING OUR DISTRICT IN THE DIRECTION IT IS , AND I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING EVERYTHING THAT WE DO HERE. UNION PARTNERS. THANK YOU GUYS. EVERYTHING YOU GUYS HAVE DONE. REACHING OUT AND PHONE CALLS. GIVING US THE OPPORTUNITY TO FIX THE WRONGS. THAT IS WHAT WE ARE HERE FOR. THIS BOARD HAS BEEN ABLE TO WORK WITH YOU GUYS, AND I THINK WE HAVE HAD A GREAT RELATIONSHIP. I AM SO PROUD THAT I WAS ABLE TO SERVE ON THIS BOARD IN IMPACT SO MANY PEOPLE. THE PRIDE I HAD WAS BEING ABLE TO HELP NAVIGATE AND GET THINGS DONE WHEN WE FELT LIKE WE COULDN'T GET IT IN BEING A PART OF THAT WAS AWESOME. I LOVE THAT. I AM ALWAYS GOING TO BE HAPPY THAT I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO THAT WITH YOU GUYS, SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO, AND PLEASE TELL OUR WHOLE TEAM THAT THEY WERE VERY IMPACTFUL TO ME, AND I APPRECIATE EVERYTHING THAT YOU HAVE DONE. I AM SO PROUD TO BE ABLE TO SAY THAT I WAS A PART OF THE BOARD THAT WAS ABLE TO PUT YOU AT THE HELM. I BELIEVE FROM WHAT I KNOW FOR A A WHILE NOW WE HAVE STRUGGLED TO GET THIS SHIP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION WITH THE RIGHT TEAM THAT WAS ABLE TO NAVIGATE THE DIRECTION WE WANTED TO SEE IT GO UNILATERALLY AND TOGETHER. SO I AM SO PROUD TO BE ABLE TO SAY THAT I WAS ONE OF THE INDIVIDUALS THAT PUT YOU IN THIS PLACE IN THE FORWARD TO SEE ALL OF THE GREAT WORK THAT YOU DO YEAR. I KNOW YOU ARE GOING TO DO GREAT. I HOPE THE BOARD WORKS WITH YOU AND ALLOWS YOU TO BE AS SENSIBLE AS I KNOW YOU CAN BE. I AM JUST REALLY EXCITED TO SEE WHERE YOU TAKE THIS DISTRICT. I WANT TO THANK MY FELLOW BOARD MEMBERS. I KNOW A LOT OF TIMES WE DIDN'T SEE EYE TO EYE ON SOME THINGS. AND LOTS OF TIMES WE DIDN'T AGREE, BUT THE FACT THAT WHEN THE TIRES HIT THE ROAD IT WAS TIME TO GET THINGS DONE FOR OUR STUDENTS WE WERE ABLE TO FIND COMMON GROUND TO MAKE SURE THAT WE DID WHAT WAS RIGHT FOR OUR STUDENTS. IT WAS A PLEASURE TO SERVE WITH YOU, AND I LOOK FORWARD OR I DON'T LOOK FORWARD TO ANYMORE ARGUMENTS, BUT I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU OUT IN THE COMMUNITY BECAUSE YOU ARE ALWAYS OUT [01:40:01] THERE AND CONTINUE TO DO THE GREAT PUBLIC SERVICE THAT YOU DO BECAUSE YOU ARE AN AMAZING PERSON AND CARRY YOURSELF WITH HIGH INTEGRITY AND THE PEOPLE THAT SEE YOU OUT IN THE COMMUNITY I KNOW THEY LOVE SEEING YOU OUT THERE, SO CONTINUE TO DO WHAT YOU ARE DOING, AND I HAVE LEARNED SO MUCH FROM YOU EVEN AS A BOARD MEMBER WHEN WE DIDN'T SEE EYE TO EYE ON THINGS. YOUR LEADERSHIP HAS BEEN PHENOMENAL. YOU HAVE HELPED STEER THE BOARD AT TIMES WHEN WE THOUGHT WE COULDN'T GET ALONG. YOU HAVE BEEN ABLE TO PUT PERSONAL BIASES TO THE SIDE FOR THE SAKE OF OUR STUDENTS IN THE DISTRICT. I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR EVEN SHARING SOME LEADERSHIP STUFF THAT I HAVE SEEN IN MYSELF CALLING ME OUT SOMETIMES. I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU OUT IN THE COMMUNITY. YOU ARE HUGE STABLE IN OUR COMMUNITY. IT WAS AN HONOR TO SERVE ON THIS BOARD WITH YOU. ANY TIME YOU NEED ANYTHING OR ANYTIME I CAN HELP YOU PLEASE REACH OUT BECAUSE I AM ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP. >> I WILL SEE YOU WHERE WE GO. WE WILL HAVE A SODA AND A GOOD NIGHT. JENNIFER, ALL I CAN SAY IS YOU ARE AN AMAZING BOARD MEMBER. YOU ARE A GREAT PRESIDENT. WHENEVER I HAD A QUESTION BECAUSE I ALWAYS TOLD PEOPLE I SAID SHE HAS AN ACRONYM COMMUNITY. MARY HAS THE OLDER GENERATION ALL KNOWLEDGE . ADAM HAS THE MASTERS IN BUSINESS. JENNIFER HAS A DOCTORATE IN EDUCATION, SO I THOUGHT WE HAD A GOOD TEAM UP HERE. THE ONLY THING I BRING IS COMMON SENSE. WHEN I DO THAT IN THE WAY WE ARE ABLE TO DO THINGS I CAN SAY ANY TIME I HAD A QUESTION ABOUT EDUCATION ALWAYS SAT AND ASKED JENNIFER. THE WAY SHE WOULD COME BACK AND SHARE WITH ME PROS AND CONS. THIS IS WHAT WE SHOULD DO. LETTING ME LEARN THAT STUFF. IT WAS HUGE IN THE DECISIONS I MADE, SO THANK YOU FOR ALL OF THE KNOWLEDGE YOU SHARED WITH ME. I LOOK FORWARD TO OUR FRIENDSHIP CONTINUING TO GROW AND I SEE GREAT THINGS FOR YOU IN YOUR FUTURE. IT WAS AN HONOR TO SERVE ON THIS BOARD. I HUMBLY THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING ME TO SERVE THESE FOUR YEARS WITH ALL OF YOU. AT TIMES I DID THINGS THAT YOU LOVED OR HATED OR I CAN GET THINGS DONE THAT I WANTED TO GET DONE, BUT WITH ALL OF YOUR SUPPORT I REALLY VALUED THE FACT THAT ALL OF YOU OR EVEN THE ONES THAT ARE HERE TODAY AND EVERYBODY ELSE WATCHING AND PEOPLE THAT ARE HERE ENTRUSTED THE ABILITY TO MAKE THE DECISION THAT I WOULD MOVE THE DISTRICT FORWARD. FOR THAT I THANK YOU AND IN THE FUTURE AS I CONTINUE TO MOVE FORWARD AND TRY TO SERVE MY COMMUNITY I LOOK FORWARD TO HAVING THAT SUPPORT FROM ALL OF YOU AGAIN. THANK YOU SO MUCH, AND WITH THAT BEING SAID JOE OUT. >> THANK YOU. I WILL PASS IT OVER TO MY COLLEAGUES TO MY LEFT. >> OKAY. I'M GOING TO GIVE YOU THE RUNDOWN WHERE I HAVE BEEN. I AM IN THE COMMUNITY QUITE A BIT. WHAT AN AWESOME EVENT. SO NICE TO SEE OUR STUDENTS DANCING PICK SOME OF THEM PLAYING GUITARS. WE WENT TO EACH STAND WHERE THERE WAS FOOD TO MAKE A DECISION WHAT I WAS GOING TO EAT. I ENDED UP JUST HAVING A WATER BECAUSE IT WAS HOT OUT THERE, SO IT WAS A LOT OF FUN TO BE ARTWORK AND EVERYTHING WAS BEAUTIFUL. YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME. THE PHOTOGRAPHERS. I ALWAYS TRIED TO AVOID THE CAMERA, BUT SOMEHOW THEY CATCH ME EVERY TIME. I SAID RETAKE A PICTURE. I HAVE TO TAKE SOMETHING OFF AND I PUT IT IN MY POCKET. IT [01:45:03] WAS A BUSY SATURDAY. OCTOBER 24 I WENT TO THE SUPERINTENDENT COFFEE. AMAZING. SHE IS DOING GOOD STUFF, AND HER CABINET OF COURSE IS THERE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS AND HELP HER CATCH HER BREATH BECAUSE THERE ARE A LOT OF QUESTIONS GOING ON. I APPRECIATE THE COMMUNITY THAT COMES OUT. THESE COFFEES ARE REALLY FOR YOU, SO YOU CAN HEAR WHAT WE ARE DOING IN THE SCHOOL OR IF YOU HAVE A QUESTION AND DON'T LIKE TO DO EMAILS. YOU WANT TO TALK TO THAT PERSON FACE-TO-FACE. SHE IS YOUR GIRL. SHE DOES REALLY GOOD, AND I LIKE GOING BECAUSE I LIKE TO SEE WHO THE COMMUNITY IS GOING AND ASKING THE QUESTIONS BECAUSE THAT ALWAYS STRIKES MY BRAIN. WHY DON'T WE DO THIS OR THAT AND I ALWAYS ADD SOMETHING. ON THE 25TH I ATTENDED THE CELEBRATION SOUTHRIDGE TECH MIDDLE SCHOOL. WOW. ALL OF THE KIDS DANCING. IF YOU NOTICE I LOVE FOOD, SO I WAS CHECKING OUT THE FOOD AND OF COURSE I HAD TO EAT THIS AND THAT. WHAT I LIKE THE MOST IS OUR SPECIAL. SOME OF THEM WERE FROM SOUTHRIDGE TECH MIDDLE SCHOOL. THEY ACTUALLY PERFORMED AND DID GOOD. I WAS JUST AMAZED TO KNOW THAT THE SCHOOL MIGHT BE PARTNERING WITH THAT GROUP OF STUDENTS, SO I APPLAUD THEM FOR DOING THAT. BECAUSE I HAD JUST TALKED TO THE WOMAN THAT HAS THAT PROGRAM OF STUDENTS THAT SHE MENTORS, AND THEY DO A LOT OF STUFF THAT THE GROUP. SHE HAD JUST TOLD ME THE NIGHT BEFORE TO GO TO THE SCHOOL. THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE A CELEBRATION. SO MUCH STUFF GOES ON SOMETIMES YOU FORGET, SO I WENT. I GOT TO TALK TO THE VICE PRINCIPAL. ONE OF THE COUNSELORS. I WAS JUST HAPPY TO BE THERE. I LOVE GOING TO THAT SCHOOL. TO SEE THEM HERE TONIGHT I AM LIKE I RECOGNIZE SOME OF THOSE KIDS. IT WAS NICE TO BE THERE. ON OCTOBER 30 OF THE DAY BEFORE HALLOWEEN I WENT TO THE INAUGURAL TRICK-OR-TREAT, AND IT WAS SO CUTE. I WAS TRYING TO GET THEM TO SAY TRICK-OR-TREAT, AND THEY WOULDN'T DO IT . SO I WENT THROUGH THE WHOLE WORD. BY THE END OF THE NIGHT THEY WERE SAYING TRICK-OR-TREAT, SO I WAS HAPPY. I LOVE LITTLE KIDS, AND IT IS JUST AMAZING. THE CANDIES ARE COMING. AS SOON AS YOU SAY THE WORD THERE THEY WERE. I WENT THROUGH QUITE A FEW BAGS. JUST DON'T TELL THE OTHERS. I GAVE MORE THAN MY SHARE. I WANT TO WISH ALL OF THE CANDIDATES SUCCESSFUL CAMPAIGNS. I WANTED TO WISH JENNIFER A LOT OF LOVE. I REALLY ENJOYED HAVING HER ON THE BOARD. I GOT TO MEET HER SOME PARENTS. THOSE ARE SOME AWESOME PEOPLE BECAUSE HER PARENTS ARE WONDERFUL PEOPLE. I NEVER MET HER BROTHER, BUT IT IS OKAY. I MET JENNIFER AND SHE IS AN AMAZING YOUNG WOMAN. I KNOW THAT SHE IS GOING TO GO PLACES BECAUSE SHE TRULY LOVES KIDS. SHE IS INTERESTED IN WHAT IS HAPPENING IN SCHOOLS AND SHE IS MY HERO. I DID AND I WOULD ASK HER QUESTIONS BECAUSE I WAS HAPPY TO HAVE HER AND I SAID FINALLY A SISTER BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE ANY WOMEN ON HERE. IT WAS ALL NINE. ALTHOUGH THEY WERE RESPECTFUL. SOME OF THEM. FOR THE MOST PART WE HAVE A LOT OF FUN. AS A BOARD YOU DO NOT ALWAYS SEE EYE TO EYE. THE CABIN AND KNOWS. I DO NOT KNOW THAT THEY CAN HEAR US, BUT WE DON'T ALWAYS SEE EYE TO EYE BECAUSE WE ALL WANT WHAT IS BEST FOR THE KIDS. AT ONE POINT WHEN WE DO NOT SEE EYE TO EYE WE TALK ABOUT IT AND COME WITH A MEETING IN THE MIDDLE. WHEN WE MEET IN THE MIDDLE IT IS BECAUSE WE THINK THIS IS WHAT IS BEST FOR OUR STUDENTS. WE ARE STUDENT FOCUSED ALL THE WAY. YOU CANNOT BE ON THE BOARD OF EDUCATION AND NOT BE STUDENT FOCUSED BECAUSE THEY ARE OUR FUTURE. IF WE DO NOT TAKE CARE OF THEM WE WON'T HAVE A GOOD COMMUNITY. IF THEY MOVE ON SOMEWHERE ELSE THEY ARE NOT GOING TO BE EDUCATED. THEY WILL HAVE A HARDER TIME. IF WE CAN EDUCATE THEM AND PUT THEM IN A PATHWAY THEY LOVE THEY ARE [01:50:06] GOING TO BE HAPPY. EVERY JOB YOU GO YOU LEARN SOMETHING NEW. THAT IS WHAT I THINK. I REALLY DID ENJOY . WE WENT HEAD-TO-HEAD, BUT AT THE END OF THE NIGHT GOOD NIGHT, AND THAT WAS IT. I DID ENJOY HIM AND LEARN FROM HIM. ONE THING HE KNOWS A LOT IS UNION ORGANIZATIONS, SO I WILL GIVE HIM THAT, AND I DID APPRECIATE THAT. HE HAS COME A LONG WAYS, BUT IT'S OKAY. I WILL SEE HIM AROUND I AM SURE. THIS WEEK THEY ARE HAVING A FULL FAMILY NIGHT , SO I BELIEVE THOSE FOLKS THAT WERE HERE FROM THE SPECIAL ED MAY HAVE BEEN GONE. HOPEFULLY THEY TAKE THEIR CHILDREN. IT IS A GAME NIGHT BEAT THAT IS GOING TO BE HELD . ONE OF THE LAST THING OR A COUPLE THINGS I WANT TO FINISH ANNOUNCING. THE MARCHING BAND HAS A SHOWCASE AT THEIR SCHOOL NOVEMBER 13. TODAY I WANT TO GIVE PROPS TO A TEACHER AT FONTANA MIDDLE SCHOOL BE SHE INVITED LOCAL VETS TO COME AND SPEAK TO HER STUDENTS. THAT IS AMAZING. BECAUSE KIDS THINK THAT VETERANS DAY IS JUST ANOTHER DAY OFF, BUT THE CITY HAS BEEN SPOTTED DURING THIS PERIOD AND I KNOW THAT OUR STUDENTS IN SCHOOL PARTICIPATE, BUT I KNOW THAT THE AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM DOES. THAT JUST WARMS MY HEART BECAUSE KIDS NEED TO KNOW WHY WE ARE FREE IN THE COUNTRY BECAUSE THOSE PEOPLE THAT SERVED THE ARMED SERVICES HOWEVER LONG OR HOW SHORT OR WHATEVER THIS IS WHY WE ARE FREE IN THIS COUNTRY. YOU CAN WALK FREELY DOWN THE STREET. THEREFORE VETERANS DAY WE REMEMBER TO HONOR THE VETERANS. WHEN YOU SEE ONE WEARING A HAT THAT SAYS I AM A VET TELL THEM THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE. THEY DO NOT HEAR IT ENOUGH. WITH THAT SAID AND DONE HAVE A GOOD NIGHT. THANK YOU. >> THANK YOU. VICE PRESIDENT PEREZ. >> NO COMMENTS. GOOD NIGHT. >> OKAY. I GUESS IT IS UP TO ME. JUST A COUPLE THINGS I WANT TO HIGHLIGHT. EARLIER TODAY SOUTHRIDGE TECH WAS HERE , AND I KNOW HE RECEIVED A 30 UNDER 30 AWARD LAST WEEK, WHICH IS GIVEN BY ASSEMBLY MAJORITY LEADER . HE WAS AWARDED BECAUSE OF HIS PASSION AND DEDICATION AND PETITIONING OF THE DISTRICT FOR THE CHANGE . SO I THOUGHT THAT WAS A GREAT HIGHLIGHT THAT I WANTED TO MAKE SURE GUYS SAID. I KNOW THERE WAS A LITERACY AWARDS NIGHT AS WELL LAST MONDAY. I BELIEVE WE HAVE THE MOST OF ANY DISTRICT TO BE CELEBRATED. AROUND 600. AM I CORRECT ON THAT NUMBER? 370 RIGHT NOW. EDUARDO GOMEZ IS IN THE AUDIENCE. THE ENTIRE TEACHING AND LEARNING TEAM. IT IS A COLLECTIVE EFFORT WITH TEACHERS AND STAFF AND THE ENTIRE ORGANIZATION TO MAKE SURE THEY GET THAT ON THEIR DIPLOMA, SO THAT IS AN AMAZING TASK IN ITSELF, SO THANK YOU FOR THAT WORK. THAT SHOULD BE COMMENDED. I KNOW OUR POLICE DEPARTMENT RECEIVED A GRANT TO LAUNCH A ROAD SAFETY AND PEDESTRIAN AND CYCLIST SAFETY. THIS IS GOING TO HELP SUPPORT BAD. WE HAD A COMMENT THIS EVENING ABOUT SAFETY AND BOSSING AND FOLKS GETTING ON AND OFF. THIS WILL HELP SUPPORT SOME OF THAT WORK AS WELL A. IN OUR LATINO CULTURE WE HAD THIS SATURDAY, BUT MANY CELEBRATED THROUGHOUT THE WEEK. I WANT TO THANK THOSE SCHOOLS THAT INVITED US TO COME OUT AND DO THOSE CELEBRATIONS. I WAS ABLE TO ATTEND THE HOME OF THE TROJANS. WHO HAD SOME TREMENDOUS PERFORMANCES FROM THE STUDENTS. WE HAD A YOUNG GUITARIST WHO PLAYED THE GUITAR. A SINGER THAT IS LIKE SELENA RIGHT NOW. AND THEN THE DANCERS. THEY ALSO PAID TRIBUTE TO TWO OF THE TROJANS WHO WERE LOST TOO SOON. YOU KNOW THEY [01:55:03] HAD SOME TRAGIC LOSSES OF STUDENTS. THE PARENTS WERE THERE TO BE RECOGNIZED. AND GIVEN CONDOLENCES FOR THE LOSS, SO I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WAS MENTIONED. GETTING RECOGNIZED AT THE CALIFORNIA COALITION CONFERENCE IN SACRAMENTO. THANK YOU TO MARCY. ABLE TO SIT FOR A A WHILE WITH THE WORK OF THE TASK FORCE. I KNOW ONE OF OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS. I GOT TO SIT NEXT TO HIM , AND WE GOT TO TALK. A GOOD TIME TO GET TO LEARN FROM EACH OTHER. THANK YOU FOR THE WORK THAT IS GOING ON WITH THE TASK FORCE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TO THE DISTRICT. I KNOW WE HAD A PRESENTATION, BUT I JUST HAVE LEARNED SO MUCH YOU HAVE HELPED ME GROW MY LEADERSHIP. I ALSO WANT TO THANK YOU FOR BELIEVING IN ME TO SIT IN THE SEAT BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY YOU ALL PICK WHO SITS IN THE SEAT , AND I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SIT IN THE SEAT I THINK THREE OUT OF THE SEVEN YEARS I HAVE BEEN HERE, AND I AM PRIVILEGED EVER HAS BEEN IN THIS HAS BELIEVED IN MY LEADERSHIP, SO THANK YOU FOR BELIEVING IN MY LEADERSHIP AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP AND BLEEDING FROM THE SEAS THAT YOU HAVE SET IN. CONTINUE TO LEAD. DO NOT STOP HERE. LET'S SEE WHAT ELSE YOU CAN GO TO BE SUPPORTIVE BECAUSE YOU BOTH HAVE GREAT ASSETS THAT CAN BENEFIT NOT ONLY STUDENTS BUT ENTIRE COMMUNITIES, SO THANK YOU . WITH THAT BEING SAID THANK YOU ALL, AND HAVE A GOOD NIGHT. NOW I JUST NEED A MOTION TO ADJOURN. ROLL CALL VOTE. THE MOTION PASSES 4-1. * This transcript was compiled from uncorrected Closed Captioning.
