AND SO, YOU KNOW, THE DISTRICT HAD SENT ALL THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS TO AROUND PARK ACADEMY TO EXPERIENCE THAT, AND WE CAME BACK WITH STRATEGIES TO USE IN THE CLASSROOMS AND THE HOUSE SYSTEM TO HAVE KIDS GET CONNECTED A LITTLE MORE.

SO THAT'S A GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENT, I THINK, FOR THEM.

IN ADDITION TO THE STUDENTS, WE HAD TEACHERS, WE HAD CLASSMATE REPRESENTATION, WE HAD PARENTS, WE HAD BUSINESS PARTNERS, WE HAD HIGHER EDUCATION. IT WAS ABOUT A COMMITTEE OF ABOUT 70+ MEMBERS.
SO THAT WAS THE LARGEST COMMITTEE THAT WE HAVE IN THIS WORK. AND THEN, SO IT WENT BACK AND FORTH. SO THEY PROPOSED A, A, WHAT THEY THOUGHT THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS THAT WE KIND OF HAD WHAT WE THOUGHT MIGHT BE THE COMPETENCIES, AND THEN WENT BACK TO THE DISTRICT ALIGNMENT TEAM AND IT WENT BACK SEVERAL TIMES TO GET THE WORDING RIGHT AND REALLY THINK IT DOWN, AND WHEN WE FIRST HAD THE DRAFT THAT WENT OUT TO BE SOCIALIZED, IT WAS MUCH LENGTHIER. IT HAD SEVERAL DIFFERENT STATEMENTS COMPARED TO WHAT WE HAVE NARROWED IT DOWN NOW. AND THEN THE WORK THAT IS JUST STARTING IS THE LEARNER PROGRESSION, AND THEN THEY WILL MAP OUT, SO THE LEARNER PROGRESSION TEAM AS OUR TEACHERS, SOME TEACHER ON ASSIGNMENT, AS WELL AS OUR COORDINATORS ACROSS THE DISTRICT WHO ARE CLOSEST TO THE WORK.

SO AS IT WAS BEING SOCIALIZED, IT HAD SEVERAL DESCRIPTORS. NOW YOU'LL SEE THAT WE HAVE IT WITH A STUDENT FRIENDLY, I CAN STATEMENT, SO HOPEFULLY THE STUDENTS CAN REALLY SEE THEMSELVES IN THE PROFILE. WE HAVE SUBMITTED WRITTEN REQUESTS ASKING FOR MORE TIME DURING IEP MEETINGS DUE TO TRANSLATION NEEDS. WE HAVE REQUESTED THAT THE NOTES ARE AT LEAST THE PARENT COMMENTS BE READ IN SPANISH DURING THE MEETINGS. WE ARE BEING IGNORED. WITH RECENT LEGISLATIVE WORK, MANY OF THESE BILLS REMAIN UNFUNDED. ONGOING ADVOCACY EFFORTS ARE UNDERWAY TO URGE THE ADMINISTRATION TO ALLOCATE THE NECESSARY RESOURCES TO ENSURE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SUSTAINABILITY OF THESE INITIATIVES. THERE IS A RENEWED MOMENTUM IN THE SUPPORT OF ENGLISH LEARNERS SUCH AS THE CALIFORNIA ORGANIZATION, PLAYING A KEY SIGNIFICANT ROLE IN THESE EFFORTS ALONG WITH THE INVOLVEMENT OF THE SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS AND DISTRICT LEADERS CONTINUING TO ELEVATE THE IMPORTANCE OF COMPREHENSIVE ENGLISH LEARNER SUPPORT SYSTEMS. THIS IS IMPORTANT TO RECOGNIZE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ROAD MAP. THIS IS A LONG-TERM PROCESS, -- SEEING THE ACTUAL EFFECTS OF IT. WE WERE EVERYWHERE. SERVING ON A BOARD WITH FIVE OF US, WE KIND OF DIVIDE AND CONQUER. I LOVE THAT WE ALL SHOW UP FOR OUR STUDENTS AND OUR STAFF TO SUPPORT THE AMAZING WORK THAT IS HAPPENING IN THE DISTRICT. IT IS SO GOOD TO SEE OUR NEW CHIEF OVER THERE.
HE GOT TO ATTEND HIS SWEARING-IN, WHICH WAS SO AMAZING. THE PLACE WAS PACKED UP. THAT IS A TESTAMENT TO THE TYPE OF LEADER THAT YOU ARE. THANK YOU, WE ARE SO EXCITED TO HAVE YOU. I ALSO WANT TO GIVE AN UPDATE. TWO BOARD MEMBERS -- MEETINGS AGO, I ASKED FOR AN AUDIT OF WHAT WAS DISPLAYED IN OUR CLASSROOMS. I WANT TO THANK OUR STAFF FOR MAKING SURE THE AUDIT WAS COMPLETE. WE CAN NOW SAY THAT EVERY SINGLE CLASSROOM IN FONTANA UNIFIED HAS AN AMERICAN FLAG IN IT. I KNOW THIS IS A DIRECT REFLECTION OF ALL OF US SHARING OUR DEDICATION TO CIVIC PRIDE AND NATIONAL IDENTITY THAT IS SO IMPORTANT TO ALL OF US. EVERY SITE AS ASKED HAS COMPLETED THEIR INSPECTIONS.
THERE IS A FLAG. IF IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, IT WAS REPLACED.
THEY ARE FLYING PROBABLY IN OUR CLASSROOMS. ANY REPLACEMENT FLAGS THAT WERE NEEDED WILL BE SUBMITTED TO THE DISTRICT BY APRIL 18TH. WE ARE GOING TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERY BASE IS COVERED.
MOVING FORWARD, WE'VE DECIDED THERE SHOULD BE AN ANNUAL INSPECTION TO MAKE SURE OUR FLAGS ARE THERE. SO THAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN. THE ANNUAL INSPECTION REPORT WILL BE DUE TO THE LEARNING AND TEACHING DEPARTMENT BY OCTOBER 1ST OF EVERY YEAR. ANY CLASSROOMS IN NEED OF A FLAG -- IF THEY ARE IN NEED OF A FLAG, WE WILL GET THAT IN THERE. THAT WAY THEY UPHOLD THIS IMPORTANT PRACTICE OF SOLIDIFYING OUR FLAG EVERY DAY.
I WANT TO TALK ABOUT OUR DAILY PATRIOTIC PRACTICES. I CONFIRMED WITH SUPERINTENDENT AND BODY THAT EACH SCHOOL HOLDS DAILY EXERCISES. THAT WAS ANOTHER REQUEST OF MINE. IT IS A LITTLE AMBIGUOUS IN OUR SECONDARY CLASSROOMS. I WOULD LOVE TO ENTERTAIN THE DISCUSSION OF JUST MAKING IT THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE EVERY DAY IN EVERY CLASSROOM. THAT COULD BE A DISCUSSION FOR LATER. I AM CONFIRMING THAT THE PATRIOTIC PRACTICES ARE HAPPENING.
